Let the bells ring: A historical collection

I spent an enjoyable afternoon yesterday, in a top-secret location inside a pagoda-style bell tower.

My friend from church, Richard Holshouser, has amassed a variety of bells that span an era of well over a century. Richard is a theologian and world-traveler who has become enthralled with the signals and motivations regarding the use of bells: Wedding celebrations, warning signals for trains and a sign of family gatherings.

One of Richard's large brass bells can carry a gong for 28 seconds.

I'm at that point in life where it's time to acknowledge you can't know where you're going...unless you know where you've been. Richard, and many others like him, have stories to tell.

If you get a chance, reach out and document some of the treasures that abound in your life, through our elder citizens who can clarify colourful points in history.

Richard, this one's for you.
